As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Assam Police had conducted a statewide anti-drug operation on October 12, following intensive pre-operation action. The campaign resulted in the registration of 547 drug-related cases and the arrest of 945 accused.
Key achievements include the seizure of narcotics and psychotropic substances valued at approximately Rs 182 crore, the execution of 73 non-bailable warrants (NBWs), and the apprehension of 47 absconders, including 10 from other northeastern states.
Additionally, over 703 drug hotspots were raided, and properties worth approximately ₹31 crore are being processed for seizure, attachment, or freezing.
The efforts also involved processing 157 proposals under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS), conducting 2,229 raids under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), inspecting 3,662 business establishments, and surveying 2,943 educational institutions, alongside the seizure or destruction of 134,539 litres of liquor, including Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), and organising 633 awareness programmes that reached 112,532 citizens and students.
Earlier last month, the 100-week Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan commenced with a nationwide Rashtriya Sankalp Samaroh on September 18, with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports mobilising young people through awareness and community-led activities to promote a drug-free India.
The Department of Youth Affairs, through Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) and the National Service Scheme (NSS), organised the Youth Pledge and Signature Campaign across educational institutions and youth units as part of the initiative, which seeks to build a collective commitment towards a “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat”, according to an official release.
The Rashtriya Sankalp Samaroh was held by NSS at 300 identified educational institutions from September 18. The participating institutions span States and Union Territories and include colleges, universities and other educational establishments. (ANI)
