"Will lay down lives for Constitution": Rahul Gandhi detained at Barakhamba Road Police Station, Priyanka at Chhatrasal Stadium Station

New Delhi [India], October 7 (ANI): Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained by the Delhi Police as the opposition leaders staged a protest near Jantar Mantar against CEC Gyanesh Kumar over the alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Rahul Gandhi has been taken to the Barakhamba Road Police Station, while Priyanka was taken to Chatrsal Stadium Station.
Keralam CM VD Satheesan and Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala arrived outside Barakhamba Road Police Station.
"What is the value of the Constitution in this nation? We will lay down our lives for the Constitution. No cost is too high for us," Priyanka Gandhi told reporters while waving a copy of the Constitution from the police vehicle.

Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress and INDIA bloc would continue to take to the streets, face arrests and legal cases to "save the Constitution and democracy".
In a post on X, Gandhi said, "To save the Constitution and democracy, the Congress Party and the opposition are ready to take to the streets as many times as needed, face arrests, or endure legal cases. "This alliance between the dictatorial Modi government and the Election Commission has already been exposed. It is time for resignations and action. An arrogant regime cannot hold out for long against the fervour of the people."
Gandhi further said that the Opposition would continue its protest until Gyanesh Kumar resigns.
"We are not going to stop protesting till Gyanesh Kumar resigns. This is a fight to protect the most sacred thing in this country. There is nothing that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah can do that will stop us," he said.
The INDIA bloc MPs were stopped by Delhi Police while attempting to proceed towards Jantar Mantar to stage a protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, "What kind of oppression is happening, and that too in broad daylight in Delhi, you can see it. Rahul Gandhi just wants to sit in a dharna to make his point, wants to protest, so what’s the meaning of such obstruction? There is a limit to dictatorship."
The opposition leaders also attempted to march towards the Nirvachan Sadan on Tuesday and staged a dharna at Akashvani Bhawan.
Meanwhile, criticising the protest led by Rahul Gandhi, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, "For Rahul ji, FIR stands for 'Failure in Results'. The Congress has already lost ninety-nine elections under his leadership. Now, he wants to score a century."
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi condemned the protest and also alleged a lack of unity among INDIA bloc parties.
He said, "What the first family of Congress did on the streets of Delhi is highly unfortunate and condemnable. This makes it very clear that he has nothing to do with constitutionality; he has only to do with anarchy. The proof lies in the fact that when the EC was ready to meet him, he was willing to meet them. Constitution says that the EC, CJI or CAG cannot be summoned to Parliament to answer a question. But he (LoP) says that he should appear before the MPs of his party. It means that it is not a Constitutional right, but his family arrogance is speaking now.”
Targeting the opposition’s alliance, he mentioned the tussle over seat sharing in Uttar Pradesh and Congress and TMC contesting the West Bengal elections as opponents.
“I would like to tell the Congress party that SP thinks them fit for 50 seats in Uttar Pradesh, and they have had 50 hours of publicity on electronic media. The truth is that their ally doesn't see them fit to get a seat share equal to the hours of publicity they have had on electronic media. As far as elections are concerned, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had said that there is no democracy in Bengal and Congress workers are being killed under Mamata Banerjee rule. I would like to ask these drama people that they used to stomp on the bodies of their own workers and say, 'We need Mamata to save the democracy' in Delhi. Were you right there or here? You want to believe in anarchy, not constitutionality. This is not a constitutional right but your family arrogance. It is clear that 'Dimagi Naxal' Congress, which has lost the public mandate, is left with just one path - come in media limelight and choose anarchy,” Trivedi stated. (ANI)
