Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 30 (ANI): The 11th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Wednesday rescued a 63-year-old devotee from Dandi Ghat on the Ganga River in Varanasi, who was drowning while taking a bath in the river.
The incident took place at around 7:30 am when the man suddenly slipped into deep water while bathing in the Ganga and started drowning. The NDRF personnel deployed at the ghat immediately noticed the situation and swung into action, launching a rescue operation without any delay.
The rescuers reached the spot and used a lifebuoy to pull the devotee out of the deep waters. The man was safely brought to the riverbank, where he was provided necessary assistance.
The rescued person was identified as S. Muthayan, a resident of Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu. The timely intervention and quick response by the NDRF team helped save his life.
The devotees and members of the public present at the ghat appreciated the prompt action and courage displayed by the rescue personnel during the operation.
The incident highlighted the importance of vigilance, preparedness, and the presence of trained rescue teams at crowded river ghats, especially in areas where devotees regularly gather for bathing and religious activities.
The NDRF teams deployed at various ghats continue to create awareness among devotees and visitors regarding water safety measures. People are advised to use designated safe bathing areas, avoid entering deep waters, and follow safety instructions issued by the administration and rescue personnel.
The force also urged people to remain cautious during periods of rising water levels, particularly during the monsoon season, as river currents can become unpredictable due to increased flow and depth.
