SSB generates Rs 1.02-cr scrap revenue in last one year, frees 516 sqare feet office space

New Delhi [India], September 21 (ANI): The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) generated more than Rs 1.02 crore in revenue from scrap and freed 516 square feet of office space during a cleanliness and records-management drive carried out between November 2025 and August 2026, reflecting the force's efforts to improve workplace management and promote good governance.
During the campaign, the force, mandated to guard 1,751 km of the India-Nepal and 699 km of the India-Bhutan borders, reviewed 39,900 files and disposed of or weeded out 21,070 files, besides conducting 3,802 cleanliness drives across its establishments, according to SSB data.
The exercise was undertaken as part of the Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters (SCDPM), a government-wide initiative aimed at improving cleanliness, reducing pendency and ensuring more efficient utilisation of office space and records.
The SSB data mentions that the campaign helped "generate more than Rs 1.02 crore through the disposal of scrap material. It also resulted in the freeing up of 516 square feet of office space", which can be utilised for other operational or administrative requirements.
The force is now preparing for the next phase of the cleanliness initiative, with the preparatory phase of Special Campaign 6 scheduled from September 16 to September 30.
The campaign is expected to build on the progress achieved during the previous exercise, with the SSB focusing on cleaner workplaces, systematic disposal of obsolete records and scrap, and better utilisation of available resources.
The latest figures also highlight the administrative responsibilities of the SSB, which operates a large network of establishments in addition to its border-guarding duties.
The SSB was established as the Special Service Bureau on May 15, 1963, following the 1962 Chinese aggression. It was brought under the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 15, 2001, and was assigned the responsibility of guarding the India-Nepal border on June 19, 2001. On March 12, 2004, the force was also entrusted with guarding the India-Bhutan border.
The force's charter includes promoting a sense of security among people living in border areas, preventing trans-border crimes and unauthorised entry into or exit from Indian territory, and checking smuggling and other illegal activities along the frontiers.
Given its extensive operational and administrative footprint, periodic reviews of records, disposal of obsolete material and optimisation of office infrastructure form an important part of maintaining efficient functioning across its establishments.
The SSB's cleanliness campaign has combined these administrative measures with efforts to create more organised workplaces. The disposal of old files and scrap not only reduced accumulated material but also generated revenue and released office space.
The force has now called for sustaining this momentum through Special Campaign 6, with the preparatory phase running through September 30.
The campaign's broader focus is on creating cleaner workplaces and promoting environmentally responsible practices while strengthening efficiency and good governance across SSB establishments.
The initiative comes as government departments and organisations continue to focus on reducing pendency, improving record management and making optimum use of available infrastructure. (ANI)
