Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 23 (ANI): Veteran Bollywood actress Saira Banu marked her birthday by taking fans on an emotional journey through childhood memories, lavish family celebrations and her enduring love for late screen legend Dilip Kumar.
In a nostalgic Instagram post, Banu recalled birthdays spent with her mother, celebrated actress Naseem Banu, whom she fondly referred to as "Pari Chehra Naseem Banuji", her grandmother Shamshad Waheed Khan and elder brother Sultan.
She described the occasions as elaborate celebrations shaped by her family's affection.
"There was always something wonderfully excessive about my birthdays," Banu wrote.
Recalling the grand cakes prepared for her, she added, "The cakes were not merely cakes; they were architectural achievements, towering confections that, I am quite certain, would have given the Qutub Minar a respectable inferiority complex."
Banu also reflected on the thought behind the gifts she received, writing that each one carried "the unmistakable signature of someone who had spent time thinking, What would make my girl happy?"
The actress then turned to the two passions that shaped her youth: acting in Indian cinema and Dilip Kumar. Banu revealed that she had admired the legendary actor from a very young age.
"I had been hopelessly smitten with him from the age of twelve," she wrote, recalling her hope of one day meeting him or even sharing a film with him.
According to Banu's recollection, Dilip Kumar did not reciprocate her youthful romantic notions at the time and would decline, insisting that she was too young for him.
Her journey in cinema took a decisive turn with Junglee, which Banu described as her "grand magnanimous debut".
She recalled the significance of the film's arrival during an era when black-and-white cinema still dominated, writing, "Suddenly colour itself seemed to have found a new mischief in the cinema."
Junglee became a major success, and Banu said the success of her early films brought significant changes to her family's life.
Those changes eventually led to the family's move to Pali Hill.
Banu's birthday reflection combined memories of her childhood with the story of her rise in Indian cinema and her lifelong connection with Dilip Kumar.
