New Delhi [India], August 24 (ANI): Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has landed in Japan to lead a nearly 200-member business delegation to strengthen India-Japan trade and investment ties, according to a statement from the Embassy of India in Japan.
In a social media post, the embassy said the Minister arrived in Japan at Haneda Airport for his four-day visit.
"The Commerce Minister is visiting Japan from August 24 to 27, leading a business delegation of approximately 200 members," the post reads.
As per the Embassy, the visit underscores the strong ambition underpinning the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and comes at a time when both countries are seeking to significantly deepen trade and investment ties.
As per the Ministry of Commerce, this will be India's largest-ever business delegation to the country. The four-day visit will cover Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, with representatives from key sectors including manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, steel, automobiles, financial services, healthcare and start-ups.
In Tokyo, Goyal will hold a series of meetings with senior executives of leading Japanese industrial conglomerates, including a round-table with Keidanren, Japan's apex business federation representing more than 1,500 companies. The Tokyo leg will also feature focused sessions on emerging sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence and start-ups, along with discussions with foreign institutional investors. Goyal is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Akazawa Ryosei, besides meeting senior government and parliamentary leaders and engaging with the Indian diaspora.
The delegation will then travel to Nagoya, a key industrial hub in central Japan, where Goyal will lead a business roadshow in partnership with the Central Japan Economic Federation (Chukeiren) and the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He will also meet Aichi Prefecture leaders and major investors in the automotive and steel sectors.
The visit will conclude in Osaka with an Investors and Business Roadshow, along with meetings with leading Japanese companies across the electronics, industrial and consumer sectors.
As per government data, Japan's bilateral trade with India totalled USD 27.47 billion during FY 2025-26. During this period, exports from Japan to India stood at USD 21.43 billion, and imports came at USD 6.04 billion. (ANI)
