Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 9 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh police have arrested three people after remains of cattle were allegedly found near a dairy located on the banks of a river in the Damkheda area of Kolar in Bhopal, an official said on Friday.
The incident triggered a protest by Hindu organisations, including Bajrang Dal workers, who demanded strict action against the accused and demolition of the dairy.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alok Shrivastava said that the police initiated action under the Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act after receiving information about cattle remains found near the river.
“Some cattle remains were found on the banks of a river in Kolar's Damkheda area. Based on the information, Kolar police registered a case under the Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act, and three accused have been arrested. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” the ACP said.
Asked about action against the dairy, the officer said that the police were coordinating with the municipal corporation and revenue officials in regard to the matter.
Meanwhile, a group of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists staged a protest at Kolar police station, demanding to raze down the dairy and strict action against the accused involved in the cow slaughter.
An activist Vinod Jor, who identified himself as cow-protection head of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad for the Madhya Bharat region, alleged that the organisation’s cow-protection team had been monitoring the area for the past four to five days.
“Bajrang Dal’s cow-protection team had been keeping a close watch on the area for the past four to five days. During a late-night operation, our workers found people allegedly slaughtering cattle behind the dairy. Three accused, including the dairy operator, were apprehended. We demand that the dairy be demolished, the vehicle allegedly used to transport the remains be seized, call records of the accused be examined to identify others involved, and strict action be taken against all those found guilty,” the activist said.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Minister Vishvas Sarang condemned the alleged incident and called for strict punishment for those involved.
“Cow slaughter will not be tolerated. Whoever is involved will be given strict punishment. We already have laws in place, and such an example will be set that no one dares to commit such an act in the future,” Sarang said.
On the other hand, BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma said that police had reached the spot after receiving information from Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal workers and had arrested the accused.
“A case of cow slaughter had come to light. Workers of the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad informed about it at night. The police reached the spot and arrested the accused. Further action is underway. Some remains of cows were also recovered from the spot. Strict action will be taken against the accused and the dairy will be demolished,” Sharma said.
He further added that there are strict laws against those involved in cow slaughter in the state. These laws will be followed and the guilty will be punished. (ANI)
