Los Angeles [US], August 23 (ANI): Legendary comedian and actor Carol Burnett has opened up about what she considers her most embarrassing moment in Hollywood, recalling her experience working on the 1984 film 'The Front Page', according to People.
In an interview on 'The Patrick Labyorteaux Show', the 93-year-old entertainer was asked about the project she found most difficult to look back on.
"Oh, The Front Page," Burnett replied. "When I did that, I was terrible."
Burnett starred as Mollie Malloy in the film alongside Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. The movie followed the story of a Chicago newspaperman who plans to leave journalism after deciding to get married, until his editor attempts to convince him to stay and continue his work, according to People.
Recalling the experience, Burnett said she initially believed the role was right for her but struggled with nervousness during filming.
"I thought it was the right part ... but I was nervous," she said.
The actor added that she avoided watching the film after its release because she was unhappy with her performance and the response it received, according to People.
"After it was released, I never wanted to see it because I knew how awful I was and I certainly did not get good reviews and so forth," Burnett said, according to People.
However, the film unexpectedly resurfaced during one of her flights to New York. Burnett recalled that the in-flight entertainment was showing 'The Front Page', and the announcement that one of the stars of the movie was on board left her uncomfortable.
"Oh, and we're going to have the movie and one of the stars is with us today on the flight," she recalled the flight attendant saying.
"And everybody turned around and smiled and waved and I thought, 'Oh no. Oh my god.' Now the movie starts and everybody pulls down their shades and I just couldn't watch. It was terrible," Burnett said.
She added, "The movie ends, everybody puts the shades up and nobody turns around to smile."
Despite her criticism of the film, Burnett remains one of television's most celebrated performers, best known for "The Carol Burnett Show". The comedy-variety series ran for 11 seasons and became a landmark in television history, according to People.
The show earned widespread acclaim and won 25 Primetime Emmy Awards during its run. Burnett decided to end the series in 1978, believing it had achieved everything it set out to accomplish while still at its peak. (ANI)
