Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], August 23 (ANI): Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of 12 Wing, Air Commodore Deepak Pant, on Sunday flagged off an enthusiastic promotional run at Sukhna Lake featuring over 50 Air Force personnel to step up community outreach ahead of the upcoming Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon on 4th October.
Talking to reporters, Air Cmde Deepak Pant discussed the motivation behind targeting younger generations and fitness enthusiasts and highlighted the upcoming timeline for the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon in Chandigarh on October 4, 2026.
"It is in the name of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, and this is a promo run to spread awareness about the event. Our target audience is Gen, the environment is going to be wonderful on 4th October," he said.
Stressing the tribute dedicated to Param Vir Chakra recipient Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Pant explained the initiative behind the event and said, "Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon displayed extraordinary courage while defending the Srinagar Air Base during the 1971 India-Pakistan War."
"He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military gallantry award," he added.
On Sunday, a promo run planned at Sukhna Lake, in which more than 50 Air Force officials participated, was organised to generate awareness among the masses, flagged off by AOC 12 Wing.

As part of the build-up to the marathon, a promo run was organised at Sukhna Lake on Sunday morning. More than 50 Air Force officials participated in the run, which was aimed at creating awareness about the marathon and remembering the valour of Flying Officer Sekhon.
The Indian Air Force is set to organise the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon in Chandigarh on October 4, 2026, in remembrance of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, Param Vir Chakra, and to honour his exceptional bravery and supreme sacrifice.
The Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon (SIM 2025) pays tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, who displayed exceptional bravery during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The event celebrates the valour, discipline, and spirit of the Indian Air Force while promoting fitness and unity across the nation. (ANI)
