Chandigarh explosive material recovery case: Three accused sent to 5-day police remand

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], August 24 (ANI): A Chandigarh court on Monday sent three accused arrested in connection with the recovery of explosive material in the city to five days of police remand.
The police had sought seven days' remand of the accused, but the court granted five days. The three accused will be produced before the court again on August 29.
The accused have been identified as Lovepreet Singh (19), a resident of Sarhali village in Tarn Taran district; Jashanpreet Singh alias Jashandeep (21), a resident of Deobath village in Tarn Taran; and Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh (19), a resident of Tarsikka village in Amritsar district.
The three were produced before the court of Dr Parikshit, Civil Judge (Junior Division), earlier today.
Chandigarh Police on Saturday registered an FIR under Sections 4(b) and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act at Police Station 36, on the basis of specific intelligence regarding the movement of suspected operatives associated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in Chandigarh.
Acting on the intelligence, a police team apprehended three persons, namely: Lovepreet Singh, aged 19 years; Jashanpreet Singh @ Jashandeep, aged 21 years; and Prabhpreet Singh @ Prabh, aged 19 years.
During the operation, the following items were recovered: Approximately 5 kg of gelatin stick explosives, one detonator, a power source and a remotely operated system, one pistol and one magazine, and five live cartridges.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused persons had allegedly come in contact with Satnam @ Satta Naushera, a foreign-based handler associated with BKI. They were allegedly acting on his directions and had planned to plant an IED in Chandigarh with the intention of creating terror.
The recovery of explosives, triggering components and firearms has been taken into possession as per law. (ANI)
