Patna (Bihar) [India], October 9 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday directed officials to take strict action against criminals and anti-social elements, strengthen law and order, and ensure the safety of citizens across the state.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at the 'Sankalp' auditorium at Lok Sevak Awas in Patna, the Chief Minister stressed that maintaining law and order was among the government's top priorities and warned that negligence in such matters would not be tolerated.
Choudhary directed officials to prepare district-wise and police station-wise lists of criminals and take effective action against them. He also instructed the police to use provisions of the Crime Control Act (CCA), wherever necessary, to keep habitual offenders and anti-social elements under strict surveillance.
He emphasised the need for prompt and effective investigation of criminal cases and stronger prosecution to ensure that those found guilty are punished in accordance with the law.
The Chief Minister directed officials to identify sensitive areas prone to disturbances and criminal activities and ensure regular patrolling, continuous monitoring and an active police presence in such locations. He also stressed the need to reorganise district riot-control units and strengthen and modernise special task forces.
Reviewing emergency police services, Choudhary called for further improvement in the response time of Dial-112 and the use of technology to expand access to emergency assistance.
Officials informed the meeting that Bihar's average Dial-112 response time was approximately 11 minutes or less, compared with the reported national average of 17 minutes. The Chief Minister directed them to maintain this performance and further reduce response times.
On cybercrime, he instructed officials to strengthen monitoring mechanisms in all districts and ensure effective surveillance of social media platforms. He called for widespread publicity of the cybercrime helpline number 1930 to facilitate complaints.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to take action, in accordance with the law, against misleading, objectionable or unlawful content that could affect law and order. He stressed that district magistrates and superintendents of police should respond to sensitive social media-related cases within two hours, with headquarters-level monitoring of the process.
Reviewing measures to curb the illegal narcotics trade, Choudhary called for a concrete action plan, stricter enforcement and better coordination among the agencies concerned. He also directed officials to take stringent legal action against those involved in economic offences and ensure effective investigation and prosecution to secure convictions.
The Chief Minister further called for better working conditions and necessary facilities for women police personnel. He also directed officials to monitor elements creating disturbances in public places and take action, as per the law, in cases involving obscene or double-meaning songs that could affect law and order.
Emphasising the need to maintain the integrity of competitive examinations, Choudhary directed officials to ensure that examinations were conducted fairly and without malpractice. He said strict action should be taken against those involved in irregularities.
"Bihar has to be made safe and crime-free. Law and order must be improved under all circumstances," the Chief Minister said, according to the release.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Director General of Police Preeta Verma, Principal Secretary of the Home Department Pankaj Kumar and other senior officials attended the meeting. (ANI)
